Joe Schmo Dr. Bryan Corbin Composition 1301 February 7, 2017 ENFP Myers - Briggs Type Indicator Our day to day interactions encompass all aspects of life which can be personal in nature like talking to a child, a spouse, or even just a casual conversation with the next-door neighbor. In my research of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and preparation for this paper, I have learned many things about myself. One of the goals of this indicator is to point out how diverse, varied , and beautifully unique we are as a human race. My personality type ENFP , as determined from the MBTI, directly affects how I interact with the world. In this research assignment, I will discuss the details about the test and how the results influence my communication with others, my relationships with others, and how I learn. Background The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test results are derived from a series of questions individual s must answer honestly to elicit a truthful response regarding their personality type. The MBTI tool was developed in the 1940s by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Briggs ( Watchwellcast ) , "to make the insights of type theory accessible to individuals and groups ." F rom this Indicator Test , one can determine his or her personality type out of the 16 possible results ( Myers - Briggs ). Interestingly, this tool was designed to help get more women in the workforce during the WWII era ( Watchwellcast ) . " During the Depression years of the 1930s , when jobs were quite scarce, women had been openly discouraged from working outside the home" ( Yellin 39). The MBTI wa s use ful in assisting these women to find their particular place in the working world. By determining individual personality characteristics, this tool had a direct effect on introducing women into an appropriate place in a working society ( Watchwellcast ). This exercise consists of four steps, with each step yield ing two possible outcomes . Step one determines what stimulates a person, determining whether they are an extrovert or introvert , referred to as "E" or "I " (Watchwellcast). Step two determines how an individual gathers information and learn s , resulting in one's learning preferences which are guided by sense or intuition ( "S" or " N " ) ( Watchwellcast ) . Step three indicates decision - making preferences ( Watchwellcast ). This step determines whether or not one is considered a thinker (making a decision based on data) or a feeler (doing what feels right at the time, resulting in sometimes spontaneous decisions) , r eferred to as "T" or "F ." Step four shows one's attitudes toward the world as evidenced by a person's judgments or perceptions, "J" or "P " (Watchwellcast). This process gene rates four letters, with the combination determining a personality type . For example , the results may yield ESTP, ENTP, ISFJ, IN TP, and so on for 16 possible outcomes (Myers-Briggs) . Finally, the combination of letters that result from this quiz will determine an assessment of one's personality ( Watchwellcast ). My personality type is ENFP. Some personality characteristics used to describe this category are : W armly enthusiastic and imaginative, seeing life as full of possibilities, making connections between events and information very quickly, and confidently proce ss- based on the patterns they see, wanting a lot of affirmation from others, and readily give appreciation and support, being spontaneous and flexible, often relying on my ability to improvise and verbal fluency (Myers - Briggs). I will be explaining these characteristics, in a detailed manner , through my chosen career path. My research will include how I handle my relationships, the way in which I communicate, and the learning style that w orks best for me , my career, relationships, personal communication style, and learning style. Career Social interaction and spontaneity are accented in the ENFP profile. My c urrent job and c areer path require strong problem - solving skills and the ability to be very flexible . This personality style does no t do well with rigid structure. Thankfully, my job allows me to be independent and dictate my daily schedule.
